My next door homeowner neighbor is a member of a screamo-type rock band that practices in his tiny living room 2x a week, 2 hrs/session. I can clearly hear the music in my house as the homes are only 15 ft apart. Three weeks, ago, I politely asked him to "tone it down" and the music has diminished with very few sessions since that time. The neighbors on the other side of this house also are disgruntled at the noise but will not approach the homeowner, like I did. Any suggestions are appreciated. Calling the police is the absolute last option.
Barry - I don't want to call the police (not because I'm in trouble with the law); only because, I believe, that could just throw more gas on the fire and can instigate more retaliation. Remember, the police cannot be here to monitor 24/7. My parents and myself live in a private community, there is a ridiculous by-law that states: only one dog per household... my situation: I was living outside of my parents house when I adopted my beautiful puppy, Rosie... due to financial issues I had to move back home dog and all, I have recently enlisted into the US Air Force and am leaving soon. However my neighbor so kindly ratted on my family and informed the "community board" that there are two dogs living in our house (mine and my parents)... there was a hearing and they ruled to fine us and eventually take us to court which we can not afford. I don't want to get rid of my dog, she is my heart, shes very sweet and never barks... so I guess my question is, How can I stop this? How is it possible that in America someone else is allowed to tell my family what we can and cannot have in our household and on our property?

We will be leaving our rental property in about 6 weeks and told the letting agent in good time. The agent has since sent us a letter saying we must professionally steam clean the carpets. Our tenancy agreement reads 'to pay for any professional cleaning services that may be required'. This to me seems ambiguous and it doesn't state what the deciding factors are. The letting agency refuse to come round and inspect the property and carpets (they will charge for an inspection call out!) and are claiming it will be done regardless and taken out of our deposit which is held under the Deposit Scheme. To me there is nothing wrong with the carpets - no major stains etc, just normal wear. Can they force us to pay or take it out of our deposit just because they want the carpets cleaned for new tenants?

It's mainly the fact that the contract says 'may be required' - with this in mind we kept the carpets clean and well hoovered and always cleaned spills straight away etc thinking that this would mean they take a look at the carpet and see that it's ok. They have admitted that their new contracts state the carpets 'must' be cleaned and that ours is ambiguous. They did this to the previous tenants and lost!
